7.22 – Look up and smile

ScreenshotJames’ POV

How did I get here again? Oh right. Joshua.

“Dude.” Joshua had said. I’d avoided eye contact. “James. Seriously man. You can’t run away from Jamie forever you know.”

Well I can try, thank you very much.

I’d turned to walk away when he’d spoken again.

“You know she’s had a crush on you forever right?” Joshua asked. That had made me turn back around. “Yeah that’s right. She totally hated Mariposa for that reason James. I can’t believe you didn’t see that before. Can’t you at least give her a chance? It’s Jamie for crying out loud.”

His arguments had gotten me thinking. Yeah it was Jamie and she was awesome, and that kiss wasn’t so bad. There couldn’t be anything wrong in going out with her right?

Of course, I never acted on that thought.

That is, until right now. I’ve just bumped into her and things are about as awkward as the way we left off. I really miss Jamie as a friend though.

So either, we hook up, or I manage to make us be friends again.

Either way it’s going to be hard to communicate if she doesn’t look at me.

I reached out and touched her arm so she’d look at me.

But she obstinately refused to look at me!

So I gently lifted her chin up to look at me. The look she gave me surprised me to my very core.

Jamie looked hurt.

And I realized, looking at her burning face who seemed to just want to look away, just how much I must’ve hurt her by running away.

I’m not too sure what came over me, but it pained me to see Jamie so hurt. So I bent down and gently kissed her forehead.

She inhaled sharply in surprise.

Turns out communication wasn’t really needed.

“Guys, you know I’m all for supporting you, but could you like flirt after the movie? We have a limited amount of time here!” Joshua said, tossing the remote back and forth between his hands.

“Jamie. Jamie I am not liking that look. Stop making that look.”

“OKAY. COME ON GUYS. You’re doing this on purpose! I really want to watch spider-man! And you’re right in front of the t.v. too!” Joshua exclaimed, throwing a tantrum.

“Damn you made me drop the remote!” Joshua blamed us, giving us a very unhappy look.

At this point, we were laughing so hard we had to part.

We set the movie up, and Jamie cuddled next to me. I’m happy we got together, it’s not as different as I thought it would be. There’s just a much more…profound I guess? Yeah profound bond now.

Being with Jamie is a lot different than being with Mariposa. I don’t know…it seems nicer, purer somehow. And in a way, almost like I’m actually part of this relationship now. Not some puppy following Mariposa around. Yeah, now that I think back on it…

“Oh guys, watch out! My favorite part is coming…” Joshua said.

Jamie shushed him.

“With great power comes great responsibility.”

“And BOOM, just like that. That is a legendary phrase guys. Legendary. Legend…wait for it…dary! Did you guys get that reference?” Joshua rambled on. “If you didn’t, I’m ashamed of you.”

“Hey, that’s sort of like you.” Jamie said with a sneaky smile, gesturing towards the t.v. “You know, great power and stuff.”

I shrugged smiling back. I guess in a way it sort of applies. But Peter Parker is a hero, I’m nowhere close to that.

“James, stop fooling around!” Jamie said with a laugh. “We really need to find Mrs.Hawkins before class starts!”

Yeah, it’s for some homework thing.

“Let’s go ask a student before it’s too late.” Jamie said as she started to panic.

It’d be useless to waste time in idle chatter.

“Hi, do you know-” Jamie started to ask before the girl interrupted her.

“Mrs.Hawkins,” She said, her eyes glazing over. “went to the library.”

She said, just like I’d willed her to.

Jamie turned on me and punched me in the shoulder. I backed up in surprise.

Feeling awkward the girl walked away.

“Didn’t you watch the movie? With great power comes great responsibility.”

I gave her a are-you-serious? look.

“Come on James. It totally applies to you. You have a great power, and you aren’t taking responsibility. You just don’t control people for simple things that can be asked by a question.” Jamie lectured.

But I saw the truth of her words. I guess, this is the part where I’m abusing my power right?

“James! James, James, James!” Alec practically screamed down the corridor as he ran down the corridor.

“I’m gonna leave you two alone, I gotta go see my teacher.” Jamie said as she walked off.

“James, James you have to come quick!” Alec said in a panic, grabbing my arms and practically shaking me. I started to raise my hands to gently push him away, that was until he said the next thing.

“It’s Nix! I found her cutting herself.”

Is it possible for me to end a chapter on a happy note? GUESS NOT. Or you know just generally have a completely happy chapter…

James is so happy here, it actually breaks my heart.

happy james

And it makes me realize how rarely he smiles. 😥

AHEM, also another vote. For the next intermission once again 😀

I fear for Jamie’s future… If James’ generation is anything like Cain’s, I can’t imagine her having a blissfully happy future. And while I’m glad that these two are finally together, I’m too scared over what might happen to truly enjoy this. 😥

And nooooo… poor Nixanne. 😦 Don’t do it again, hun. It can be addictive.

❤ Jamie and James! I LOVE THEM.
As a writer I wholeheartedly approve of heartbreak and stuff, but as a reader… (sobs) WHY?!
Also, Nix breaks my heart. I love her to pieces. I'm sending her a hug through time and space.

  5. Hmmmm. I hope James really does like Jamie. I’ve loved her from the moment she enthusiastically introduced herself to him as kids. So proud to be part of the student counsel, so energetic and fun. She’s smart and kind and dfhjkfshk. I really like her, but I dunno if I get the sense James does. He seems to feel pulled into it by the fact that Jamie, naturally, was hurt by his rejection. I mean I guess he seems okay with it, but I dunno….I want him to be more than okay with it. I want to feel assured that he actually, genuinely likes her…just like she likes him. She’s such a good influence on James too. He’s been tainted by Mariposa’s manipulation–far too loose with using his powers. To take away a person’s free will, particularly without that person’s consent, is quite a dark thing to do, even if it is “just getting them to answer a question.” I hope Jamie will be able to reign him back in and begin to see what exactly it is he’s doing when he invades another person’s mind and body like that.

As for Nix, god poor thing. My heart goes out to her times a thousand. She must be in so much pain. She needs her siblings now more than ever.

Poor Nix 😦 I understand the feeling – I have bee clean for five months tomorrow actually. It is a hard thing to go through and even harder to stop. I hope she can open up to her siblings about how she is feeling and get the help she needs (even if she is just a character in a story haha). As for James and Jamie… FINALLY!! They are so cute. But something is going to happen I am sure *braces self* alright… reading on.
